Louis Leclair
2 years old Congenital infantile fibrosarcoma
At 25 weeks into the pregnancy, we knew something was wrong with Louis’s left foot. Without a clear diagnosis, we were monitored until he was born. Louis had congenital fibrosarcoma, an extremely rare tumor. It was only the fifth case ever recorded worldwide. At five weeks old, Louis began four cycles of chemotherapy. At three months, his liver stopped functioning. The doctors prepared us for the worst: a slim 2% chance of survival. After a stay in intensive care, our little warrior survived. At four months old, Louis had his foot amputated. Today, there is no trace of the disease, and we are proud to be a family ambassador for Leucan’s Ski Challenge.
Rules
- To participate, each participant must pay the registration fee.
- Any participant under 16 must provide Leucan with the declaration and liability waiver duly signed by a parent (or guardian) BEFORE the start of the event.
- Any participant who did not complete their own registration on the online platform must provide Leucan with the declaration and liability waiver duly signed BEFORE the start of the event.
- Abusive consumption, betting between teams, and racing between participants are not permitted.
- No substitutes are allowed after the Challenge has begun.
- Participants must use the chairlifts or designated lift lines identified for the Leucan Ski Challenge, if applicable.
- Should additional health regulations be applied, the Leucan Ski Challenge team will comply with the sanitary measures issued by the Government of Quebec and the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ).
- In case of cancellation, the event will not be postponed, and registration fees and donations will not be refunded.
- The Leucan Ski Challenge takes place even if it rains, provided the snow base is deemed satisfactory and safe by mountain officials.
- A cutoff time will be set for counting donations to determine the top fundraising teams. This time may vary between mountains and will be communicated to participants at check-in on the day of the Challenge.
- A team may have its recognition revoked if any cheque from its fundraising is returned to Leucan due to insufficient funds. To retain its title, the team will then need to recover the amount or pay it themselves.
- Each team must raise a minimum equivalent of $250 in donations per participant, which must be submitted before the start of the Challenge.
- If the team’s minimum fundraising amount is not reached, participants will be asked to pay the difference on-site in order to take part in the Challenge.
- Each participant is encouraged to take on a Challenge that suits them and complete a number of runs set according to your personal goal. The Leucan Ski Challenge is not focused on speed or competition but on pushing oneself and feeling a sense of accomplishment. It is a moral and symbolic commitment to children with cancer and their families.
