FAQ

What is the Leucan 12-Hour Ski Challenge?

The Leucan 12-Hour Ski Challenge is an annual fundraising activity for skiers and snowboarders. Each team of four must raise $400 in donations for Leucan. It is the total amount raised by the team and not by the individuals that allows the team to participate to the Challenge. Each team member must do a minimum of one descent per hour for 12 consecutive hours (from noon to midnight). This Challenge is a friendly activity for the whole family and for skiers and snowboarders of all ages

When does the Leucan 12-Hour Ski Challenge take place?

Saturday March 20, 2010 at Ski Bromont and on Saturday March 13, 2010 for all other sites (Ski Chantecler, Stoneham Mountain Resort, Mont Cascades, mont Lac-Vert and Mont-Vidéo).

Can we do all our descents consecutively?

No, all team members must pass by the control station at least once every hour for 12 consecutive hours.

Is there a minimum age to participate?

No. For all children under the age of 12, the Challenge is considered completed after a participation of 6 consecutive hours between noon and 6 p.m. (6 descents). For those under the age of 16 , a parent or caregiver must sign a release form and hand it in on the day of the Challenge. Without this signed form, the child will not be allowed to participate.

We are a large group and wish to register, how should we proceed?

You must create teams of four and register by team.

What are the fundraising forms for?

They are very important, both for you and for Leucan. They allow you to keep track of all your donations. They also allow Leucan to issue tax receipts, which will only be done if the information for each donor is complete (name, address, amount of donation, method of payment). Do not write donations received online on this form.

Can I make copies of the donation form?

Who do I make the cheques to?

On the day of the event, will I know how much I have raised online?

Yes, because the online donations of the defiski.com website will close temporarily to allow Leucan to compile this data. This temporary shut down will be from noon on March 12 (with the exception of the participants of Ski Bromont who can obtain online donations until noon on March 19) and reopen at noon the day of the event. Take note that the amounts received following the event will not be compiled for the grand prize draws.

When can donors expect to receive their tax receipts?

For all donations made by cheque or cash, receipts will be issued the months following the event. For all donations done online, the tax receipts are issued immediately.

Can donors expect tax receipts for donations below $20?

Yes, but on request only.

Until when can we register or make online donations?

Online registrations and donations are possible until noon the Friday preceding the event (Friday, March 12 except for the Ski Bromont participants who will have until March 19, 2010). Online donations will be accepted again at noon the day following the event. Take note that these donations will not be compiled for the prize offered to the team having collected the largest sum per mountain.

Can I place a donation box at my office and can the donors receive tax receipts?

Leucan can provide you with donation boxes, as long as the boxes are placed in a secure and supervised area. Donors who drop money into the box are not eligible to tax receipts.

How are the funds raised used?

The funds raised will be used to allow generous contributions to clinical research, which further increases the chances of recovery, and to provide the many services offered to cancer-stricken children and their families: welcome, emotional support and follow-up, financial assistance, massage therapy, hosting and support services in playrooms, socio-recreational activities, school life services as well as end-of-life and bereavement follow-up services.

Are there some reserved or mandatory ski slopes for the Challenge?

There is a reserved ski-lift and a control station where you must present yourself each hour but you can choose the slopes for the descents.

When must I give the funds raised, other than those obtained online?

On the day of the event, when you register.

If I am a participant and wish to make a donation for my own fundraising campaign, can I receive a tax receipt?

The amount eligible for a participant-donor’s tax receipt will be calculated following the event based on the value of the advantages received by the participant. The regional office will have to deduct the value of all that the participant received from the amount of the personal donation. This amount can only be calculated after the event, corresponding to the number of participants.

Can we be replaced during the Challenge?

No, the four skiers or snowboarders who begin the Challenge must complete its 12 hours in order to be eligible for the grand prizes.

What must I do when I arrive on site the day of the event?

We recommend that you first gather the 4 members of your team and present yourselves together to the registration area where you will be asked to sign a release form (the procedure will be accelerated if you bring your printed and duly filled form with you). A corridor will lead you to the registration area where you will hand in your release form, money and donation form(s). In exchange, each participant will receive a ski pass, identification number and a small gift.
